Cross-Curricular Numeracy This blog will discuss why numeracy is taught across the curricular whilst involving other subjects within the subject, I will highlight the areas as to how it enhances children’s learning. Children and young people should acknowledge how important Maths is in the curriculum and how this subject is vital within other subjects. It is vital to understand that Mathematics is not an individual subject but instead is included in other within the curriculum. Maths is used in the science field and the digital technology world which shows that numeracy is used across the curriculum. Making Numeracy enjoyable and engaging in classroom/Primary setting.

Making Maths enjoyable and engaging in classroom/primary setting. This blog will discuss ways in how math can be enjoyable and engaging within a primary school setting. Children and young people all have a different preference in what they like when It comes to curriculum subjects. Majority of children find Maths to be a ‘boring’ subject, all children are naturally inquisitive but sometimes for maths, children may not feel the same in this case. Children carry this negative attitude with the math subject and especially during class children often lose concentration and lack in being involved. Maths is a vital subject in the curriculum, and it is important that all children get support and help by teachers and practitioners. As children can lack in numeracy, Donaldson (2015) states ways on how to make maths interactive and engaging, he expresses that if Maths is taught correctly through relevant contexts maths can encourage children to be more engaging and fascinated (Donaldson, 2...

Digital Competency in Primary Schools

Image
Digital competence in Primary Schools During my work experience in Primary school, I witnessed various use of digital technology, it was clear that the setting involved technology into the classroom as they want pupils to use technology outside the curriculum and take the skills they learn in school with them outside of school and enhance them. During Maths lessons in Year 3, the teacher involved laptops into the lesson for children to have access to apps which helped enhance numeracy skills, the task involved problem solving and quick maths questions to test children’s thinking skills. The involvement of digital technology during this lesson made the lesson interactive and enjoyable, most pupils find maths boring and difficult hence why it is important that teacher make this subject fun so that children can be more engaged. Donaldson successful futures framework (2015) considers digital competence as a cross-curricular subject, with it being surrounded and linked with other subjec...

Designing our own movie allowed us to involve storytelling through acting, storytelling can be done in many ways and making a movie being one of the ways. Whilst making the movie it involved using our imagination and being creative with different ideas and resources. From reading stories and watching films in the past it allowed us to pick up ideas from there and expand on our imagination. The experience from doing this activity encouraged us to interact with team members and be involved ...

Benefits of Storytelling

Benefits of Story Telling “Stories and fantasies enable children and adults alike to put experimental flesh on the bones of their own aspirations, and see and feel what alternative future may be like” (Claxton, 2001, p. 137) Storytelling is a powerfully unique way of learning within primary education. Storytelling can be defined in a variety of ways. Hamilton and Weiss state that “Storytelling is the oldest form of education. People around the world have always told tales…stories are at the core of all that makes use human” (Hamilton and Weiss, 2005, p.1). This definition is focussed on the history of storytelling and how the past has impacted the future on telling tales. Whereas, Hardy defines storytelling as a dream stating, “We dream in narrative, daydream in narrative, remember, anticipate, hope, despair, believe, doubt, plan, revise, criticize, construct, gossip, learn, hate, and love by narrative. In order really to live, we make up stories about ourselves and others, abo...
